How Art Saved the World exhibit postponed

Dear Pop Revolution Gallery fans,

Due to lack of entries for "How Art Saved the World" we will be postponing the exhibit until Earth Day Weekend 2012.

What is Earth Day?

Earth Day is observed on April 22 and was started in the United States in 1970 by Senator Gaylord Nelson to create awareness for the Earth's environment and to encourage conservation efforts. In 1990, Earth Day was taken international, and today, more than 500 million people in 175 countries observe Earth Day.

We hope that by re-scheduling this exhibit we will allow adequate time for more work to be done. It has been a very busy few months for our fellow artists and for us so postponing the exhibit is in the best interest for everyone.

Any entry fees received will be refunded and we will keep your information on file for the re-scheduled exhibit opening on Saturday, April 21, 2012 on Earth Day Weekend. More information about the new exhibit opening will be sent out over the next few months!

We apologize to all the artists that worked very hard to put together work for this exhibit. By re-scheduling we hope to still make it worth the while and provide an exciting opening to celebrate Earth Day.

The Modern World: Visions of Ben Neal

Pop Revolution Gallery is pleased to announce the upcoming show, “The Modern World” to open Saturday, October 9, 2010 with an artist’s reception from 4-8pm.

At first glance the pieces will seem fictional or other-worldly, but on closer inspection the viewer will recognize the parts that make up the whole. Artist Ben Jason Neal has incorporated the cast-offs of our everyday world into his art. Bygone technology finds new life ...through his hands. The narrative that Neal is relaying is that of a future generation for whom the artifacts of our time are a mystery. Can the shell of a formerly “useful” object convey its purpose even if its soul/electronics are no longer functional? Can the imprint of human touch be experienced yet in objects no longer working in their original capacity? Neal asks these questions and examines the subject of interconnectedness and infinity in his most recent work to be unveiled at the opening.

The Modern World will run from Saturday, October 9, 2010 – November 4, 2010.

Michaels draws from his series, “Backyard Tragedies”, “Treasures” and “Unparalleled World” to explore all aspects of this word in his aptly titled upcoming show, “Reflections”.

"Collision"

"Collision", a collaborative project by artists, Pattie Byron and Rebeca Pittman, will open on Saturday, August 14, 2010 with an artist’s reception from 4-8pm.

"Collision" does not refer to a conflict or violent occurrence, but rather an exchange of energy between sculptor, Pattie Byron and painter, Rebeca Pittman. This is a true collaborative effort where, in its inception, Byron was wrapping Pittman’s drawings around sculpture and Pittman was painting Byron’s sculptures. Collision is a dialogue between the two artists who looked at the project as a collision of lives as well as artwork. Both wanted to be thrust out of their comfort zones into territory that challenged them as artists. Byron wanted to bring painting into her sculpture and Pittman, who “strives for flatness” in her work was interested for her painting to become more three-dimensional.

The artists reveal that this has been a back-and-forth process, with each working on pieces in shifts out of their studios at the Pendleton Arts Center. Ultimately the artists wish for the audience to experience the collision of their styles, but also sense the harmony in the pieces.

"Collision" runs from Saturday, August 14 – Saturday, September 4, 2010.

Pop Revolution Gallery is pleased to welcome photography by Michael Hanson. Hanson does architectural photography in the area for clients, getting the right shots and angles is key to what he does. When he's shooting for himself, Hanson has a wide variety of interests including landscapes, macro shots, local Cincinnati area, and of course architecture. He also has a unique and stylish framing method which he designed and builds himself.

So, we've been getting some feedback on the "Kiss Me' exhibition. Most is good, but there seems to be some who are upset with the winners chosen, or not chosen, and some content in the show. We, at Pop Revolution Gallery, stand behind the jurors decisions. Pop is also not in the business of censoring art, that is not what we're about. We feel we have presented the show with the precautions necessary so everyone can enjoy it. Art should have a free voice in society; there to show the beauty in the world, or the ugliness, and everything in between. Some art is created to appeal to everyone, some is not. We are thankful for the opportunity to support all art and artists.

"Kiss Me" Art Exhibition

KISS ME is a collective of artists from around the country coming together to share their diverse styles. The exhibition pays tribute to Gustav Klimt and his most famous work, “The Kiss.” Pop Revolution Gallery asked artists to submit their best rendition of “The Kiss,” while adding their own style and interpretation to the original.

The exhibition along with “The Kiss” theme, aspires to be a great start to a romantic Valentine’s date.

Today, we had the opportunity to be on a local television program this morning. The Northern Kentucky Magazine on Insight, channel 6 in N. Kentucky. The interview lasted about 8 minutes, we discussed our framing services and the current and upcoming exhibitions at the gallery. Overall, it went well and hopefully it will bring some publicity to us and the artists. We brought some artwork down also to show to the public. These included a photograph by Tim Freeman and a painting by Emily Rood. The host also asked us about our graphic design services, where we immediately mentioned James Thomas and the great work he has done for us. The video will be uploaded shortly so everyone can make fun of us. Thanks for being a part of Pop Revolution Gallery.

Our New Hanging Pop Sign

Today was not a good day for our new sign. With it being so windy the sign had no chance. Sitting here at the the gallery I heard this awful knocking sound. I went out front and the sign was swinging and banging against the building. I knew it couldn't hold on. Classes Start this Week

Here at Pop Revolution Gallery we continue to move forward. We will have our first class this week at the gallery in our new classroom on Thursday with our teacher, Kadie Sanders. She will be having a drawing class for anyone who might be interested in attending. Additional classes such as Abstract Water Color, Mixed Media, and others are slated to be added soon.

Kadie Sanders has been working in the interior design field for the past nine years. She graduated from the Art Institute of Cincinnati with and associates degree in graphic design. She has been a part of the Pendleton Art community since May 2005.

Let Pop Revolution and our two featured artists, Anna Schroeder and Joseph Wilson, take you on an extraordinary journey. Often times when we view a beautiful landscape our first impulse is to snap a photo to remember it, to share the beauty with others. Schroeder and Wilson's common thread is their love for the landscape, each bringing their own artistic style and purpose to our gallery.

Anna Schroeder's landscape murals are designed to bring the feel of the outdoors into your home. Often times larger than a window, these murals pay homage to Chinese landscape panels. She says, "With a room filled with these panels the person in the room will feel surrounded by a panoramic view, thus creating a space where your eye and soul can rest."

Inspired by Ansel Adams, Joseph Wilson brings us breathtaking images of places we dream of. As a younger artist James Thomas' galleries were on the side of buildings found in the underprivileged inner city of Youngstown, Ohio. He would write messages of hope on the crumbling buildings. Nature Through Abstract Lenses

Our next show will be with local artist Shannon Godby. Shannon Godby is an experienced artist in Batavia, Ohio, that has many different types of original art to offer. You'll find everything from abstract paintings and traditional photography to digitally manipulated works. The artwork will speak for itself. Painting has always been his first passion followed closely by photography, for nearly twenty years, he has been creating works of art in both mediums. Within the last few years, he has begun to infuse parts of each medium to create abstract paintings based on images found in nature. When he looks at his work, he wants to be reminded of what originally inspired him about the scene. He says, "Whether it was late day sun creating long shadows over a field or simply the way a group of elements worked together, if I look at the painting and get that same feeling, I have accomplished my goal."

SPCA of Cincinnati

Recently Pop Revolution had the privilege of working with the charitable organization Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) located in Sharonville. With their annual Fur Ball event approaching at the end of March and artwork being donated that needed framing we were asked to take on the framing responsibility. We were happy to offer our services at minimal cost to the organization. We also donated personal artwork and gift certificates for framing at Pop Revolution Gallery. The Fur Ball was a great success again this year and we look forward to working with them next year. Thank you SPCA for protecting the animals.

As a tribute for Zeitgeist Day March 15th, Pop Revolution Gallery will be hosting an encore opening for the exhibit "Corporate Criminals" by artist Jim Wagner. Discover hidden truths about Corporate America through the insightful knowledge of art.

The exhibit will be up until April 30th and can be viewed during gallery hours 10-6pm Tuesday-Friday and 11-3pm Saturdays.

On Sunday March 15 (Z-Day) I would like to invite Zeitgeist Movement supporters and fans of the “Corporate Criminals” exhibition to an open discussion group. Depending on the response that we get, we may have a public viewing of the new Zeitgeist movie with a Q&A session following. Guests may arrive as early as 5pm for an hour of networking time and the event will start at 6pm and will end at 10pm. Appetizers will be available. Also, any promotional literature, books, and or information packets that you may have, please feel free to bring these items with you to pass around to the other attending guests.

With the combination of the art exhibit "Corporate Criminals" and open discussions about the Zeitgeist movement, I anticipate a very educational and powerful experience on Z-Day.

Hi, I'm Zach Palmer from Southeastern Ohio, living in Arizona at the Grand Canyon where I work for the National Park Service as a forest firefighter.

My passion is photography. I explore mostly with traditional photography (film) and continue to explore with different formats from 8x10 to sub-mini. Most of my work you will find at Pop Revolution is shot with either a Hasselblad 500cm or a Horseman 4x5.

I take the most pride in my black and white work, shooting mostly with neopan 100 and printing on oriental seagull fiber based papers. Using only archival methods and products.

My color work is scanned and printed from Epson ink jet printers on Ilford papers. Unfortunately, the lack of color darkrooms across the world makes it difficult to keep the same standards as traditional work.

Right now I'm in Costa Rica with my new fiance and my Fuji 690gw working on some travel stories and some long exposure daytime images.

Living my life as an artist requires time to think about the direction of my work. I remember when making art was about being perfect in my renditions of still lifes. Then I remember when I focused on imaginative stream of consciousness pictures. I somehow morphed into writing stories for kids. Then, getting back to painting, I embarked on a watercolor mission.

There is something completely attractive about the way the colored water layers itself translucently. Even more intriguing is how watercolor requires you to leave it be once it happens. That season of my life really developed acceptance, I believe.

After making many many watercolors, I met Ron. He is a master faux painter. In other words, he has developed himself as a magnificent decorative painter. I work a few days a week with Ron, still, painting in homes and businesses. This marks a new season of my life. Watercolors no longer consume my world. I have been exposed to texture! Layering texture is completely different from layering watercolor. Where watercolor requires I leave it alone at some point, texture challenges my willingness to change surface in order to create a work of depth.

This is what creating art does to me. It helps me live a more meaningful life. As I learn these new tecniques, the way I experience life changes as well. That is what is so important about spending time making work. My character develops through the creative process. My most important goal is to develop my talent as to see the point of living as clearly and plainly as possible.

Pop Revolution is pleased to welcome two artists to our gallery for this show. Paul Loehle is a portrait artist who works in pastel. He brings to life the world of myspace pages' profiles and other personal imagery of his own. His larger than life pastels are a must see. Painter Phil Pryse's distinct Asian and industrial look brings an exciting combination to his canvases. Bringing together two unique artists like Paul and Phil will be a real pleasure for Pop Revolution Gallery to share with the Mason community.

Grand Opening Exhibition

Our Grand Opening was on November 8, 2008. This was our first show opening at the gallery so we didn't know what to expect; the turnout, the reaction to the artwork, how the place looked... Ben and I were a little nervous. We have a gallery next door to us also, Gallery 42, they were having an opening as well. We prepared for the show throughout the day and the doors opened at 4pm. Our guests started to arrive shortly thereafter. In no time the gallery was pretty full with guests. Friends and family of exhibiting artists were visiting, many local artists stopped in to see the new gallery, and we got a lot of overflow from Gallery 42's opening. It's always nice to have multiple shows at once, the draw to the area is much better. Pop Revolution Gallery had a steady flow of guests the entire night. We had a great Grand Opening Night, we had close to 150 guests come through the gallery, we sold some art, and did some framing orders.

The guests gave us rave reviews on the gallery and the artists showing. We were very pleased with how the evening turned out.

Welcome to Pop Revolution Gallery's blog. We're starting this to help keep customers, friends, and potential clients abreast of our new and ever changing on goings here at Pop. For those not familiar with us, our gallery and frame shop opened at the beginning of October 2008 in Mason, Ohio.

We opened our doors with several amazing artists to fill our gallery. Painters Eileen McConkey, Shannon Godby, Kadie Sanders, and Danielle Hospelhorn all brought their unique and wonderful styles to our gallery. Our photography exhibit was presented by Mark Bealer and Vickie Daniels. Beautiful images taken with toy cameras and vintage cameras reminiscent of times past. Jewelry makers Tom Kinney and Carol Engelman seem to make something everyone would want to wear. We also have Jim Goethel, a wood turner, who brought us lovely bowls and vases. We couldn't have opened our doors and had our grand opening without them. Thank you.

Our frame shop got off to a nice start and continues to do well thanks to our sister gallery, Sweet Art of Mine, in West Chester who is able to take framing orders for us as well. The traffic to our shop continues to grow as we build our name in the community. We try to offer personalized service along with a great product at affordable prices.
